Jeyakumar Sundaram (My Classmate of 1982 M.Sc Mathematical
Economics batch) has established himself as a novelist especially
fictions based on history. The present novel KuttaNattuKuttuvan is
based on the story of SelgeluKuttuvan, brother of the illustrious
        king Neduncheralathan aka Imayavaramban.
The author has touched upon various risks and responsibilities
of the past rulers in this fiction. Right from the beginning, the story
revolves around human emotions in the family of the ruler. It starts
with the grand coronation of SelgeluKuttuvan as the king of
Kuttanadu overseen by his affectionate elder brother Nedun
        cheralathan.
The political acumen of Kuttuvan in ensuring efficient
administration and his ability to win the confidence and love of his
people have been narrated well. Reader can visualise from the
descriptions and narrations how people were happy and comfortable
under his rule. The author has vividly described the warrior king's
war strategies and tackling of conspirators.
The author excels in the chapter covering the romance between
SelgeluKuttuvan and the princess Mathivadani of Odanadu. The
wordplay between the wives of Neduncheralathan, their mocking
and teasing each other and the younger brother of their husband
        are enjoyable.
The story makes interesting reading while narrating the valour
of Kuttuvan and how he conquers enemies. However he has a
change of heart and loses interest in wars in the later stages due
to the influence of his advisers .
The author seems to have consulted authentic books on South
Indian history used the details to create this fiction in his own style
and with originality. His illustrations are sure to make the readers
visualise, relish and enjoy reading the book.

My best wishes to Jeyakumar Sundaram.
